Subject : Maverick 3L automatic Brake servo whistles
I have a maverick 3L V6 auto and the brake cylinder has started to whistle all the time as I drive. The noise only stops when or as I brake, then starts up again soon after this. Has anybody had this or can anyone help with this problem?

  • Subject : Re : Maverick 3L automatic Brake servo whistles
Hi there, I had the same intermittent problem. Apparently it is an air leak from the master cylinder. This is where one of the washers is leaking air thus making the whistling noise. I have been assured it does not affect the braking performance at all, and I certainly had good powerful braking. Not sure if you can get a repair kit but was quoted £300 plus for a new master cylinder. Cheers.

Hi, I have a 'P reg' Nissan Terrano 2.7 TDI long wheel base. I know this for ford mavericks, however they are exactly the same car.

While accelerating fairly aggressively, a loud scraping/knocking sound comes from the front (I think), There is a juddering and the car momentarily looses drive (revs go up).

It got worse (Happened with less acceleration) the further I drove.

I'm thinking gears are stripped or something but I have no idea.

Any ideas at all would be appreciated.

Had very similar thing happen on Terrano II 2.7TD last week. Stopped at traffic lights, tried to set off and no drive. Can select any gear ok, no strange noises evident or damage to gearbox or driveshafts. Been told it's going to need another gearbox, but loathed to spend a load of money repairing the vehicle if the same thing is going to happen again and by the sound of things, this isn't an uncommon problem!

    Hi
Make sure no noise when idling coming from gearbox. Input shaft bearing is a common problem and will cost you £££'s and a lot of time to repair. Check if noise changes when clutch pressed. Check for service history as these get abused if in a farm environment. Steering can wander - front wheel bearings are adjustable but steering drag link a common problem. Rear drums can go out of round and cause judder. Front calipers can get too rusty and bleed screw can snap off. check for transfer box oil leaks as can be also expensive. Hope that helps!

The terrano has recently decided to not start very well.i have changed the glow plugs, still no luck.i crank it after the glow light and it will not fire, try it again and it sometimes fires if the battery does not go flat first.i have checked the relay and all relevant electrics and all seems ok. the battery whist running gives out a voltage of 13.7 volts so i guess the alternator is doing its job.on cranking though the volts dropped to 6 volts.when it starts there is a cloud of white smoke. the fuel filter was new about 6 months ago and have checked for water.where do i go next the fuel pump?injectors? never had a problem for the last 3 years since buying it.please help if you can.

It could be the fuel shut off solenoid, if this has stopped working it some times allows the fuel to drain back to the tank,so when you attempt to start it needs to drag fuel back through the system, Good luck

Yes, 3rd gear has worn. Should be ok if not too bad. If gearbox input shaft had worn out in the past due to bearing failure (common cause), then it wears 2nd & 3rd gear badly as a result.

My brakes have started fading occassionally and theres a funny noise from under the bonnet when it fades. What could be the cause of this? It seems to happen more when pointing down hill. Reservoir is full. Could this be as simple as needing to bleed to brakes or is this going to be expensive?

there is a tiny gause filter on the top of the injector pump, i had the same trouble, remove the battery and the power steering pump and its a 5 min job. when you remove the bolt on the banjo fitting there is a little spring that holds the filter in place. you will need to fish the filter out its inside the pump, use a piece of thin wire, either dont put it back or i cleaned mine in petrol and put it back. it a 5 min job. just mind on the banjo fitting there is a washer top and bottom, dont loose them.

Drop all your old oil refill with correct oil and quantity required. see how it goes if the noise/problem persists you may have done a head is there oil in your radiator? you can check by unscrewing the cap oil sits ontop of water so it will be obvious. if this is the case you will need to remove the head and assess the situation from there good luck.

Subject : Maverick Speaker problem
I've just bought a 1994 2.7 diesel.
The radio has produced sound 3 times in the past 6 weeks and then only for a max of 5 minutes. When it did, the sound was from all 4 speakers.
I assumed that the problem was with the original radio, so I bought a new modern one. The garage man has re-wired to fit the new radio and there is still no sound from any speakers.
Is there some sort of common plug for all 4 speakers somewhere? If so, does anyone know where?

Also, the slot for the radio is too deep, someone said that I have to use the fixings from the original radio. Halfords do not have a conversion panel.

Many Thanks
Dave

Subject : Maverick brake vibration
Sometimes when braking, I feel a juddering vibration through the pedal and feel a cyclic noise which slows down with a decrease in speed. It does not happen all the time though!

I have checked the pads, discs etc and the vehicle is only just through the MOT. It has done a total of 46000 miles and was registered in October 2003.

If it is attributed to the ABS system, what is needed to repair it? I have been told it could be as much as £1500.

MY ford maverick 2.7gls (intercooled) diesel missfires when reving up in neutral. When you rev from tick over to say 4500rpm then upon de acelating you rev up and it will splutter befor reaching rpm seems to be less evident if you rev uo from already hi revs. Engine runs fine when in gear and pulls well, allthough fuel economy may be slightly down.

    Hi
I,ve had the same problem on my 96 terrano. The pollen filter, situated behind the glove box was blocked. It cost £12 for a non genuine part and made a large improvement. I think temperature gauge may be another problem. Mine only gets to quarter mark in summer and hardley registers in winter. Ive check thermastat which seems ok think it could be the fan/water pump housing (£130) plus fitting but still looking for answers

check your brake fluid level sounds like a leak in the system, have a look at the back of the rear brake drums to see if they are wet.

    UK - Tue 30th December 2008 06:25pm (GMT)

  • Subject : Re : mr
The brake warning light has 2 functions, low fluid level, and low vacuum, check the vacuum pipe and connections from the pump to the servo. With the engine running and in neutral with handbrake on, press the brake pedal rapidly 4 or 5 times, the warning light should come on(this tells you the pressure sensing is working) after a few moments the warning light should go out (this tells you the vacuum pump is working). It's worth checking the alternator drive belt is correctly tensioned as the vacuum pump is driven off the back of the alternator. The brake warning light should not come on under normal braking conditions(assuming fluid level is correct), if it does it means you have low vacuum and no servo assistance to the brake pedal, and no ordinary human will be able to push the pedal hard enough to make the brakes work.

Subject : '96 ford 4x4 3/4 ton turbo diesel
bought a used '96 ford 3/4 ton turbo diesel. had the original dual mass flywheel/clutch. every time you change the clutch you need to change the flywheel which is about an extra $1000.00. my mechanic found out you can put a conventional clutch in. "lux" makes this clutch. installed it and it started acting eratic after 20k miles took it apart and found really nothing wrong except for wear in the pressure plate fingers that the throwout bearing rides on. lux only warranty's for 12k and wasn't interested in listening to the issue. my mechanic put a new on in for labor and his cost for parts. ran fine for a while, but now everytime i depress the clutch it's real noisy and noisy just idling. anyone else experience this problem?

Is yours a SWB or LWB ? if SWB, then the exhaust comes in 3 parts. the rear is around 60 quid new and fitted and a quickfit type place, same for the mid section, but the front section....oh my word... thats 86 quid, and rather difficult to fit. you might have to remove the gearbox support bar to slide the section in. (all SWB advise only, i've never looked at the LWB)

The instructions on the sun visor are pretty easy to follow, watch the dashboard light and there should be a green light come on when you've got it into 4H. Remember to be stationary when doing this though. when you put it back into 2h remember to reverse a few metres or so to release the lock on the front hub.

    Hi,
There is a mini filter where the fuel pipe goes into the fuel pump. It is quite common for this to clog up which gives you the problem you have. If you go to the ford maverick owners club website there is a download you can follow to remove and clean it. I did it and it cured the problem. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any probs...

Subject : Knocking at front 1995 2.7 Maverick GLX
I've just bought a 2.7 LWB Maverick Diesel. Yesterday whilst going down the motorway, I heard a bang, and since then there has been a knocking noise coming from the front. It gets faster/louder as I accelerate. One garage didn't know what it was, another tried to sell me a gearbox. However knocking/clicking persists even when clutch is in and gearbox disengaged. Car still drives, but I haven't a clue what it is and it appears neither do garages. Any ideas as I'm stumped. thanks.

have you had it in 4 wheel drive beforehand if you have its probabably the diff because when you go from 4wd to 2wd if you dont reverse it a meter or two after changing it keeps the front drive shafts locked in to the hub whitch in turn winds the diff up and breaks it thats what it sounds like to me.

The new B2500 double cab I just bought didn't come with the load protection bars on the rear of the cab or the load rails down the sides. I'm not sure if the Ford Ranger also comes like this now?

We had one fitted by Halfords with same problem. Kenwood too. They had to get a specialist fitter out but he wasn't needed as Halfords had supplied the right lead but they had fitted it wrongly . Basically there is a special lead you can buy from Halfords

Just had same problem with Halfords wiring adaptor, it has to pushed in really firmly into the ford adaptor, otherwise it doesnt connect properly -hence no sound. Also check the guide/fit of them as they tend to scrape a bit of the plastic
adaptor and prevent it going right in.
    Good luck

    Hi,
Almost certainly the idle air control valve. Ensure water is circulating to it an the water return pipe is not blocked. Unlikely to be the PCM Power control module (expensive) but Fords might try and sell you one.

Subject : Rav 4 Questions!
I own a 1996 Rav 4 GX. How long should it take to disengage the diff lock? I sat and waited, then I drove forward and still nothing. Finally, as a last resort I had to reverse and hit the breaks brfore it would stop bleeping.

Tho other thing was: Does anyone out there in 4X4 land know where I can get accessories for it (suspention lifts and so on) so that I can do atleast a little off roading until I can afford to get a real 4WD!

YOU NEED TO REMOVE ARMREST/CONSOLE. SCREWS IN TAPE BOX & POP OFF BLANKS NEAR HANDBRAKE BUTTON. UNDER THAT IS A NUT ABOUT 10-12 MM WHICH YOU WIND UP BUT SPACE IS LIMITED FOR SPANNER MOVEMENTS SO IT MOVES VERY LITTLE AND YOU WILL MOAN A LOT !

Subject : Brake discs change
I have 1995 (m) Ford maverick 3door. The discs are due for a change. The auto hubs appear to be attached to the discs. Anyone got any advice about removing this. I do not want to take it apart only to be told "should have got the garage to do that!" Can I take the hub off without causing problems? Does anyone know how I can get an English manual for the this car?

you got to to take the hub of yes but before you do you need to crack the 6 13mm nuts first and after that you got to tap the disc and the rest to separate the disc and the hit apart it will not hurt the hub as i had to change mine and mines on a (L)plate.
