    Hi,

ill start with the simple - does it have manual front hubs (a turning pat in the middle of the front wheel to enguage the wheel to the axle - for 4wd work this needs to be in 'locked' all other times in 'free'

if not this...you may have a vacuum pipe broken/off the diff...if you look under it you should see a small rubber pipe attached to the middle of the front axle (diff) this when fed a vacuum causes the 4wd to lock the front wheels to the axle if the pipe is missing or damaged it will cause the front wheels not to be driven - any more info or advice come to elite4x4.co.uk

Regards the hub - attach an adjustable spanner or similar, the extra leverage will probably relase it..but do not go crazy or you may break it...if this doesnt work the front hubs can be removed (there are about 6-8 small bolts that attach it to the hub...if you remove it..you can then strip it down and clean it..

Subject : Grand Vitara EGR Value issue
hi all,

i get the orange engine light on when i put her under pressure like driving up a hill or when i put the shoe down.

its a 2001 model, 2 litre diesel and i think it has the peugeot RHZ engine.

can you tell me where exactly the EGR value/solinoid is? the reference below mentions using a 12 mm spanner to take it out but where is it. it must be some where near the manifold.

would i also need to take off the aluminim intake to the manifold and clean it out also?

regards,
Will.

Subject : Vitara's
I used to own a suzuki vitara, i think they are the worse 4x4 to own. Its was dangerous in wet conditions, drank petrol and i also had to have the head gasket replaced twice! I now own a Mitsubishi Pajero Junior, it is an amazing difference from the suzuki models. Mitsubishi's are definately better built and i feel safe to drive with out the feeling that im going to slide or topple over around a corner!!!
Id recommend Mitsubishi's to anyone wanting a nice, reliable, solid and safe 4x4

Hi, Just read your post,I agree the Vitara can be tail end happy in the wet,but only if you have a heavy right foot.I think you may have had a bad one. When I bought my 92 4 door,it had the fat boy tyres on it,it felt like you were driving on a water bed.I swapped them for semi mud tyres with stiffer side walls,re bushed and shocked the whole car,and it is like new,all for about ?250.
It is a great, cheap, weekend off roader and I have found my 1.6i engine more economical than my 1.6i pug estate. My only gripe is that the rear seat belt mounting is more foreward than the seat back,so when i put child seats in they pull foreward every time i brake, but this was sorted with two sets of three point race harnesses.I can honestly say I enjoy driving my Vitara(even if it does have a girly, hairdresser image),and it's happy off road.Try a sorted one.
    Take care Jon.

  • Subject : Re : Suzuki Grand Vitara
I have recently sold my Grand Vitara 2.0D and bought a Nissan X Trail 2.2 DCI as a replacement - the reason: I used the vehicle primarily for doing those sort of jobs that you wouldn't want a conventional car to attempt e.g. taking a load of shooting equipment around farms, towing a trailer full of logs etc. The Suzuki 4 WD vehicle range suffer slightly from a poor image in as much that many people think that they are not a true 4 WD vehicle and I used to take great satisfaction in taking it to places where those with apparently more proficient off road vehicles would flinch at the thought. My problems with the vehicle lay with the fact that my wife could not get a clear picture in her head as to when to use the 4 WD system when the roads were icey and I was concerned that she would avoid using it and also I got completely fed up with the various rattles and squeaks from the vehicle interior. The vehicle was under the manufacturers warranty but the dealer was not really interested in fixing them so I resolved many of them myself, but others remained so it had to go. Don't let my experience put you off - it's a tough and capable bit of kit and I miss the low ratio gearbox but I do like the more sophisticated X Trail.

The information triangle has recorded a fault. This fault is located in the E.C.U. At work we use use a computer called TECH2, to read the information which is stored in its memory. You can also connect a L.E.D to a secondary diagnostic socket. 6way connector beside relay frame. By counting the flashes of the L.E.D you can find the D.T.C number. The diagnostic trouble code cane then be identified to a specific faulty component. You can reset the E.C.U fault memory capacitor. To reset;disconnect the battery POSITIVE terminal, push in the cigar lighter, this allows any positive charge which is still stored, to escape to GROUND. The vehicle must stand for one hour before re-connecting the battery POSITIVE. This function restores the vehicle back to its basic/original settings. If the light illuminates after this process, then this will be the first fault in memory. The most common fault i deal with at work on SUZUKI is the E.G.R Valve. If the vehicle used for lots of short journeys, the valve will build up with un-burnt recirculated gas. Causing a fault code and often illuminate the M.I.L lamp. Remove the E.G.R Valve using a 12mm spanner and clean with a carbon cleaner, then reset the E.C.U.

all models come with standard sil/golg body mouldings. have them colour coded to the body colour. fit a rear door high level brake light/roof spoiler. fit full chrome kit,i.e wing mirrors, rear light lenses, chrome side steps, rear chrome steps and a chrome tailpipe trim.

My wife's old SJ413 was heavy on steering especially when parking (even with good road tyres) so we got Rhino Ray near Brighton to fit power steering and it made a big improvement. he used a Carlton box and Dihastsu pump and reservoir.

    Have you bought it yet?

The V6 is miles better for performance and towing torque, just more thirsty. Had one in the family for 4 years, and will happily keep it another 4.
