Subject : Toyota 2l te
Hi, just had the cylinder head reconditioned after the timing belt snapped. The engine sounds great and starts first time but for some reason after having had a good roadtest the vehicle has developed a strange fault.
The engine starts straight off the key but it will not rev up more than 1600 rpm. I have checked all vac pipes, electrical connections and the fuel return pipe. The air and fuel filters are new. The vehicle acts as if it is fuel starvation. Are there any other fuel fiters I can check?
Oh and there are no fault codes stored in the ecu.

thanks Paul

    Hi,
Yes I have had this same problem, you must never jump start it with the passenger side battery !!! it blows 24v system (follow the red wire behind the drivers battery you will find a round electric unit) mine was blown when I jump started from drivers battery. Just replace the unit £25 from scrapyard.

I have had many auto Surfs and I have always left the OD switch engaged, like this it will engage all 4 gears accordingly (+better fuel economy.)
The only time you should disengage OD is when towing or climbing a hill.

It will normally engage 4th/OD at around 35mph.

Subject : Landcruiser 100 propshaft shudder
Does anyone know why The Landcruiser developes a slight shudder/thunk from the propshaft .My previous 80 series did not have this condition but my 100 series has . I have driven other 100 and 200 series and it seems it is a commom problem .My service consultant at Toyota say's that it is just a noise a Landcruiser makes .No matter how you tighten or grease the propshaft it is one of the idiosyncrasies of the Landcruiser .I find it hard to beleive with all the Landcruisers on the road that this detail is not sorted out ?

Subject : Toyota Rav 4 [2004]
Recently acquired a 2004 Rav 4 then purchased, on the net, an 'a' bar and a double rear bar. Trouble is the A bar doesn't seem to like this model.[Have a feeling it should be on the later model BUT there are some bright people out there who might have a suggestion or two to make about overcoming the dilemma. My lovely garage man is scratching his head wondering if he can attach it having removed the front bumper, measured up for extended brackets and trying that. The horizontal part of the bar [etched with RAV 4] also has 2 fixing holes.
I also bought stainless double bar for the rear. [More bling!] The exhaust tail seems to be the obstacle with that! If anyone has any knowledge re. fixing these please let me know before next Wednesday which will be 'try again day'!!!!

It drove great for 1st couple days until I fiddled with 4 wheel drive gears to make sure it was in H. thought i accidentally hit it. Used manual for info. Never fooled with for wheel drive before. Not sure if locked or unlocked in H. Locked light does show in L. Never once hit the dash switch to unlock.

this is a common problem with hilux check the thermostat wall if it is de shaped change it or if u dont use the heater just remove it and if u use the heater replace it and make the fan direct ie take it out and put an old piston ring behind it and put it back now when u start the engine open the bonnet and accelerate manually and check as u race the engine the fan goes faster now the faster u drive more circulation in the radiator and the engine stays cool and ur engine makes a nice sound trust me we r doing this in the dessert and the engine forget over heating the gauge never reaches the center point even when we floor the hilux while we r been chased by british troops on land rovers who mistake us for taliban as we r hunting deers and have hunting carbines with us after a few miles in the dessert the land rover normally overheats due to exessive acceleration and we escape with our meat and head off for a feast

Mine did exactly the same thing, the MOT tester found that the mounting bush for the steering box had split and come apart. Once this was replaced, all ok again.
Toyota can only supply new steering box for over £1000 but you can get just the bush from milner offroad.

its ok, this is perfectly normal. the glow plug time will keep the glow plugs on for a certain amount of time after engine has started to help burn the fuel in a cold engine, the glow time usually recieves a temperature signal from somewhere and will keep glow plugs on for a longer period of time if engine is cold, or if the weather is cold to aid in cold starting.

if it is the centre prop shaft support/bearing housing you are talking about then lifting your hilux will deffinatly alter the angle or the prop shaft and that can deffinatly cause, to solve this you must correct the angle input to the centre housing but this all depends on the type of lift kit fitted, has it had just body lift, or is it running extended shackles on the leaf springs? as there are many different ways to jack up a hilux you would have to let me know which way the vehicle was jacked up, it could just be a case of grinding off the centre support and welding a piece of 1 inch box between chassis and support

Subject : Colorado Vibration
Started to get a vibration through the car at anything over 2300rpm / 70mph. Would seem to come from the rear of the car and is definitely speed related.
If you accelerate up to 80-90mph the vibration is easily felt and heard. If you take it out of gear at that speed, it is still felt/heard.
Checked and re-balanced all 4 wheels and tyres (tyres are pretty new), but no difference. It is also felt under my feet on the drivers side if i place my feet flat on the floorpan, but this may be paranoia on my part! LOL.

Suggestions?

Hey,

I have a 95 Rav4 that has driven great however since it was accidentally driven for a long trip with the C Diff Lock on on dry tarmac road there has been a loud knocking/banging from the under the back of the car kinda between the back wheels when I pull off in first gear and sometimes go into second. When it happens the car kind of shudders with the bang.

Hi
Advise please. I just picked up my new RAV4 XTR two days later a 40foot flat bed lorry took a corner to sharp and swiped my pride & joy. Damage to the rear off side wing and bumper. I have beento the Toyota repair shop they tell me I need a new bumper and rear panel. What I need the advise about is I can't see how they can replace the rear wing panel. It looks to me like the whole car roof, all the rear is a single pressed part. I don't want them to cut and join it and I dont want them filling it with filler. Any advice would be appreciated.

You've probably had it sussed just now, but yep, had same "problem".

    Mines a 2000 W car.
It's been some time since i did it, but from memory you reset it through the trip button for the mileometer.
It's a case of switching on ignition, holding the trip button in for 5 seconds, releasing and holding for 5 seconds again.
As i say it's been a while so can't be more specific.

all you need to do is source your breather on the fuel tank and find out if there is a kink or block in the pipe, not sure if the cap has a built in breather or not on the rav4, well if it has its obviously not working, find your blockage and youve got it, its usually at the same point as the fuel sender

I have a blown front diff.!!
My SURF has lift kit and 33" tyres. The Diff has 39x8 ringgear and pinion,(ratio 4.875:1) This seems to me to be an odd ratio. I can only find Diff ratios for Petrol models. I wondered if it is a TOYOTA BUILT CAR like this. Anyone know where i can compare diff ratios for the diesels. I can get hold of Diff easy enough for an Auto, but I think it will be different ratio. Hi, I too had a similar problem with increasing vibration at over 70mph, I found I could drive through it and the car became smooth again at over 90mph. But all very nerve wracking. The problem was finally spotted during a service by a keen eyed mechanic at Marsh Toyota in Plymouth. There was a nut & bolt missing on the propshaft linkage throwing the prop out of balance, although it looks by your message that those things have been checked I thought you might check them again just in case. Hope this helps.

You can probably get 25 at tops mpg out the 2.4 but you will be expecting a miracle to get anywhere near 35 out of it.I have the 3l and on a run i'm getting 30 so how you can say 35 is beyond me.Sorry to put a downer on your reply but thats the facts. If you do a proper search on the hiluxsurf site you will actually find the right info.i am also a member there
